Socializing without drinking alcohol can be difficult.

Socializing without consuming alcohol can be a tricky situation for many people, and for good reason. We live in a culture that usually involves alcohol when it comes to getting together with friends and family; alcohol is often used as a social lubricant. But there are many ways to socialize without having to drink and still have a great time.

Focus on the people, not the drinks.

If you’re feeling self-conscious about choosing not to drink, remind yourself that you’re there to spend time with friends and family. Being sober makes it easier really getting to know them; ask questions, listen to their stories, or start conversations about things that interest you. You’ll be surprised how much fun conversations can be when they’re not happening through the fog of a few beers, or more.

Find other activities to do together.

Bonding doesn’t always have to involve alcohol. Spending time doing something you enjoy together is a great way to socialize without having to drink. Go bowling, watch a movie, play board games, or even go to a concert. These are all fun, entertaining ways to catch up with friends or family, without the pressure to drink or get drunk.

Non-alcoholic options

There is also a variety of non-alcoholic beverages that you can add to the mix, like juices, kombucha, mocktails, or the botanucal tonics we brew here at Auralis Botanical. Though many mocktails contain some sugar, it’s definitely a lot less than what is in an alcoholic drink. But, if you’re worried about sugar intake, our drinks are 100% sugar free.

Honesty is the best policy

Finally, be honest with your friends or family. If you’re not drinking, there’s no need to lie. Your friends will understand and respect your decision, whatever the reason might be. Remember, you don’t owe anybody an explanation for looking after yourself.

Remember

Socializing without alcohol can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Just remember to focus on the people, find something fun to do together, provide a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, and be honest about why you’re not drinking. With this in mind, you can socialize without drinking alcohol and have a great time.
